Merry Christmas!

I know I haven't blogged for a long time. My life has been very hectic. Here is the main reason!

Jack (Melissa's nephew) has been living with us since the end of September. Now Melissa and I have not wanted to be parents, especially me. I have never felt the erge to have a child (by giving birth or adoption). However, Jack is in a bad situation and we know we needed to do what was best for him. So, he moved in with us. We turned our purple and yellow butterfly room into a Bat Cave! He loves Batman. We put him in daycare and he absolutely loves it! I now understand what parents mean when they say it makes it all worth it when your kid does something cute or says something cute. So the times when he spills pink milk on my tan carpet or breaks the toilet tank cover, I just remember him "needing" a hug or kiss as he is going to bed (along with every stuffed animal that he sleeps with) and how lucky we are to have an influence on him.

Melissa has been in contact with a few attorneys about getting full custody of him. My hands are tied on this one since the wonderful state of Utah doesn't allow gay people to house kids if they are put in foster care or to adopt as a couple. All I have to say is our house and our influence is the best place for him to be! Hopefully once we start the process, I wont have to move my stuff out of our bedroom and act like I live in the basement as "roommates"!
Until I blog again, ROCK ON!
P.S. Merry Christmas!!!

Utah sucks! You do what you need to do for that kiddo. You are the best. I want to be just like you when I grow up. :)

Kids are totally worth all the stress and pain. You are doing a good thing. Keep it up!

I wondered what was going on. All I know is that if the state of Utah understood how much love you have in your heart for everyone (not just little Jack), it wouldn't be a question. I'm not one teeny bit surprised that you've opened up your home to him - you've done it for SOOOO many people over the years. He is lucky to have such GREAT aunts! Now, it's all about him when he needs it the most. We would love to do some play dates since all three boys are about the same age. (I think Jack's a smidge older.) By the way, as long as you are co-habitating (whether in the basement or not), legal custody will elude Melissa..... Thank you, Utah lawmakers.
